Meet our Graduate Nursing Faculty
Dorothy Carlson, DEd, RN
(Edinboro University)
Dr. Carlson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Villa
Maria, MSN from Edinboro, and Doctor of Education from Penn State.
Her specialty training is in medical surgical nursing. She is
published in the Journal of Emergency Nursing on how to critique and
use research in practice. |

Dr. Ciesielka is the current MSN Program Coordinator. She is a
graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of
Science degree in natural sciences, a Bachelor of Science degree in
nursing, and Doctor of Education in leadership and administration.
Her MSN in Adult Primary Health Care Nursing is from the University
of Pittsburgh. She maintains a clinical practice as an adult nurse
practitioner at an inner city ambulatory care clinic. Her special
interests are nursing history, online teaching, and adult and
pediatric ENT, allergy, and asthma.

Dr. Conway is an experienced pediatric nurse. Both her
master’s degree and PhD are from the University of Pittsburgh in the
field of Parent-Child Nursing. In addition, Dr. Conway is a board
certified family nurse practitioner and maintains a faculty practice
in family health. She has extensive experience as both a faculty
member and administrator and is currently teaching nursing theory
and research in the nurse practitioner program. Her research focuses
on the needs of children and families and pain management
strategies. She has a special interest in end of life care. |

Dr. DePalma is a graduate of the Presbyterian University
Hospital School of Nursing. She received her BSN and MSN from the
University of Pittsburgh and received her Ph.D. from the Duquesne
University online doctoral program. Dr. DePalma is an experienced
teacher, as prior to teaching at Slippery Rock University she has
taught at Duquesne University, the University of Pittsburgh and
numerous diploma schools in both the Pittsburgh and Seattle areas.
Dr. DePalma is currently a Senior Research Associate with the
Oncology Nursing Society. Her research focuses on quality clinical
outcomes for consumers and evidence-based practice. |

Andrew Grimone, Pharm.D.

Dr. Grimone is employed as a part-time temporary faculty member each
spring term to teach NURS 602, Pharmacologic Application. Dr.
Grimone is currently a Clinical Pharmacology Specialist in Internal
Medicine and Infections Diseases at St. Vincent Health Center in
Erie, PA. He graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of
Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. |

Ms. Keenan is currently Chair of the Nursing Department at
Clarion University. She received her diploma from Philadelphia
General Hospital School of Nursing; she also holds a BSN from
Slippery Rock University, Graduated from the MSN program at Edinboro
University. Joyce also holds Family Nurse Practitioner Certification
from Edinboro University as well. She is certified in
Maternal-Newborn Nursing and has diverse clinical and educational
experiences. Major areas of interest are maternalnewborn and trauma. |

Dr. Kubinski received her BSN from the University of Pittsburgh, MSN
from Edinboro University, and PhD from Duquesne University. Her
specialty focus is medical surgical nursing. She is certified by the
NLN as a nurse educator. |

Deb Lewis, EdD, CRNP, MPH

Dr. Lewis is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Slippery Rock
University. She holds a BSN, MSN, and EdD from West Virginia
University and an MPH and Post-doctoral Fellowship in Biomedical
Informatics from the University of Pittsburgh. She is ANCC certified
as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her scholarly work has been directed
toward consumer health informatics with a focus on the delivery of
computer-based assessment and the design of consumer health
websites. She received NIH funding for development of, “The Caring
Connection,” a family-focused web-based communication resource for
parents of children with cancer. |

Dr. McClune received both her BSN and MSN degrees from
Edinboro University. She completed her PhD at the University of
Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Her doctoral work focused on comfort
theory and quality of life. She is currently an Assistant Professor
of Nursing at Edinboro University. Dr. McClune has broad experience
in critical care, neurosurgery, pediatrics, and orthopedics holding
positions from staff nurse to outcomes manager and nursing
excellence coordinator. Her research interests include comfort
theory, measurement, and data analysis. |

Dr. Nelson is currently the Chairperson of the Nursing
Department at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. She holds a
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from Duquesne University and a
Master's Degree in both Nursing and Information Science, as well as
a Ph.D in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a
member of and is actively involved in the informatics work of the
American Medical Informatics Association and the National League for
Nursing. Dr. Nelson is a Sigma Theta Tau Distinguished Lecturer. Her
areas of research include nursing informatics, consumer informatics,
distance education, and the information literacy. |

Ms. Nosel is currently Chair of the Nursing Department at
Edinboro University of PA. She earned her Baccalaureate Degree in
Nursing from Indiana University of PA and her Masters of Nursing
with a concentration in nursing of children from the University of
Pittsburgh. She is currently enrolled in the D Ed. Program in
Administration and Leadership Studies at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania. Her research interests include end of life care, the
BSN as an entry to practice, and the educational and socialization
needs of the non-traditional nursing student. |

Dr. Penrose received her BSN from the Louisiana State
University Medical Center in New Orleans and her Master’s Degree in
Public Health from Tulane University. She holds a Post Master’s
Certificate as a family nurse practitioner from the University of
Virginia and Doctor of Public Health from the University of
Pittsburgh. Dr. Penrose is responsible for a number of the program’s
clinical courses and maintains a faculty practice at the Bethlehem
Haven, a shelter for homeless women. Dr. Penrose’s research interest
is in the area of women’s health, especially related to the
prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Ms. Sparlin is currently an Assistant Professor of
Biology. She completed her undergraduate degree and graduate
work at Slippery Rock University and has continued post-Masters
studies at LaRoche College and the University of Cincinnati. In
1984, she began teaching for Clarion University at the
Pittsburgh site. As well as Anatomy and Physiology, she now
teaches undergraduate Pathophysiology and Human Genetics as well
as Advanced Concepts in Pathophysiology for the Family Nurse
Practitioner Program. |

Catherine Stiller, PhD, RN

Dr. Stiller completed her BSN and MSN degrees at Edinboro
University and PhD at Case Western University in 2006. Her
specialty focus is medical-surgical nursing with research
interest in pain, alternative therapies, energy therapies, and
chronicity. She is a therapeutic touch practitioner and
craniosacral therapist. |
